Yep just select "bitstream" for "Audio output format (optical)" in ps3 video settings, and in ps3 sound settings select optical, then dd / dts and the two default pcm options that are greyed out. On your surround system afd auto is the usual setting to use - that just plays whatever it's sent, so you'll get 5.1ch dd or dts on movies and games when it's there.
