On my side I found an easy and other solution under Mac OS X High Sierra 10.13.4 : 1) Go to /Users/yourname/Library/Application support/QuickTime/ 2) Remove the plugins found in the folder 3) Restart. It worked for me. AC3MovieImport.component or Perian.component were responsible for the issue.

I am experiencing no audio playback on Panasonic AVCHD files linked or imported(*everything has been playing well till the MC update from the old appman to the now new Avid Link). When I tried VLC is was as jerky as a very jerky thing, but I stumbled across this and it seems to help for me. I can at least now play them in VLC. In VLC, Go to Tools > Preferences In the lower left of the box click the checkbox Show settings All
