OK, I tried MKVMerge 4.0 which worked great. WD Live decoded the AC3 and it played fine on the TV…except the audio and video didn’t sync up. I also tried the same H264 file with the original DTS audio and ran those through MKVMerge and that too didn’t sync up properly either.

Similar problem here. Watching Netflix with audio output set to “HDMI pass through”, I only get audio if the track is DD5.1, no audio when the movie track is in stereo. The only way I can get it to work is to change the WDTV audio output setting to “Stereo”, which defeats the whole purpose of haveing my AV receiver with 5.1 speakers.

You can convert AAC 5.1 to AC-3 using Popcorn MKV Audio Converter. Doesn’t take very long and will certainly get your files working faster than waiting for a fix from WD (who really can’t do anything apart from downmix it to stereo PCM, which isn’t surround).

The WDTV Live seems to be properly developed in regard to this. It plays HE-AAC audio both in mkv’s and ts. BUT only as long as the HE-AAC audio is the only audio track in the file. If there are multiple audio tracks, I can’t get the HE-AAC ones to play. matbl.
