Since I'm going for a local console for ESXi w/ GPU passthrough, my best bet is probably just to pass through the HDMI audio device on my Radeon.

The VMWare virtual sound driver installed with VMTools (or the Microsoft "Remote Audio" driver) will be utilized to pass sound from the VM.
