Although not luxuriously appointed, the Dynaudio Excite X38 is a fine compact speaker for the money This is the largest floorstander in Dynaudio’s Excite range: a new series of entry-level speakers from the Danish company, all designed to be easy to drive. All this is delivered for a more than fair price. For me and at €3'000/pr the X38 is the new crown jewel of speaker options. I'd have a hard time identifying a competitor below €5'000 which would equal the Dynaudio on the sum of its achievements. The Excite series is a bit of a Volkswagen Gold. It wins by avoiding mistakes.

The sharp separation of individual sounds and complex passages happened at the very top of the class without turning vivisectionist. Besides tonal neutrality, this resolving power and associated transparency should be the prime attractions of the X38. Detail remained keen without spotlighting as was the case for earlier Focal or Triangle.

This too was the advice of a friendly Dynaudio employee whom I met a few days after delivery at the Braunschweig broadcast exhibition. There he'd manned an impressive dem with the X38 and NAD's big M2 true digital integrated. "Run 'em in well!"

I’m currently in the market for some new speakers. I have a Cronus magnum and my current speakers are Klipsch forte II’s. My budget limit is about $4000. So far of all the speakers I’ve listened to in my price range, the Dynaudio x38’s are my favorite. Do you think I can power them sufficiently from the 4ohm taps on my Cronus Magnum ...

While the small Excite models are 8 Ohm, the larger X38 is 4 Ohm, but it is still very amp friendly. For many years, Dynaudio has made sure the impedance of their speakers doesn't go significantly below 4 Ohm. 2 Ohm could indeed cause problems with "smaller" amps.
