NES Expanded Audio: 100k Pot Mod - The Curriculum Crasher

    https://curriculumcrasher.com/2017/01/24/nes-expanded-audio-100k-pot-mod/
When mixing the expanded audio, the most dynamic change occurs with the VRC6 and the FDS audio. I can confirm this mod works with all expanded audio via the PowerPak flash cart, except for VRC7. VRC7 will not work with this mod unless you are using an actual Lagrange Point cart w/ the 60-to-72 pin adapter wired to route the audio.

Nerdly Pleasures: NES PowerPak and EverDrive N8 Mapper ...

The standard mapper only gives 5m04s, but the official tournament time was 6m15s. This mapper gives you the official tournament time. Comments : The NES PowerPak uses a MAP.XX file for each mapper. The iNES mapper number is in hexadecimal for each MAP.XX file. So iNES Mapper 79 decimal turns into 4F hexadecimal and is supported by the MAP.4F file.

The PowerPak FDS support will also let you delay the automatic disk swapping to allow the introductions of Zelda no Densetsu and Doki Doki Panic to work. However, the Everdrive can set its emulated audio output mixing to low or high, which may be useful for late Famicoms and all Famicom AVs, which supposedly have quieter internal audio output.

Building a gimmick! famicom cart with expansion audio ...

    https://www.sega-16.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-22987.html
The japanese nes (famicom) came with a circuit for carts to include sound chips that upgraded the audio of a game. The nes powerpak recreates these added audio chips but it's never 100% and you can hear the difference. Gimmick was only released in japan and Scandinavia (but scandinavia uses the pal nes so they didn't get the audio upgrade).

Is it possible to mod my NES to support the enhanced audio capabilities of the Famicom Disk System, while the game runs off a PowerPak? If so, would this be a crazy over-ambitious mod? Would it be worth it? 8 comments. share. save. hide. report. 88% Upvoted. This thread is archived.
