If you make sure audio is set to builtin , and 16bit , not encoded digital . in the audio midi setup application control panel. take a tooth pick and insert in to the audio jack , to see if you can gently free the contacts , if the red light goes out then the audio may be switched back to analog or built in etc . it is hard to say , this issue has been on many macs with this type audio …

Considering I buy the G4 PB 17"...my ideal set up will consist of Logic 6 or Cubase SX running on OSX..a software sampler (Halion 2.0 or Logic EXSP)...the audio card will probably be the Digidesign M Box so I can benefit from having Pro Tools...for a midi controller I am looking at the small Oxygen 8 keyboard hmmmm I think thats it for starters.

The audio(in this case, usually a Motif patch) then is routed to Apogee Mini-Me pre and into the S/PDF input in the DIGI rack.

When I connect the mixer to my PowerBook G4 (10.3.9) via firewire, Garageband and Audio / MIDI Setup see the firewire mixer. I had no problem recording via the firewire connection.
