Working with High-Resolution PCM Audio - …

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/wmformat/working-with-high-resolution-pcm-audio
The Windows Media audio codecs only support decoding to high-resolution PCM formats when the application is running on Windows XP or later. On previous versions of Microsoft Windows, the codecs decode to a format with a maximum of 16 bits per sample and 2 channels. In addition, you must specify that you want the codec to decode to high ...

Replied on October 20, 2017. For anyone with the same question, I figured it out. Uncheck the box in the Windows audio settings called "allow applications to take exclusive control of this device". It now outputs everything in PCM, and allows Equalizer APO to work with surround sound on Netflix. Report abuse. 62 people found this reply helpful. ·.

What is PCM Audio? [Format Difference. Expert Explaned]

    https://samplerateconverter.com/educational/pcm-audio
PCM audio ( Pulse-Code Modulation) is one of representations of an analog signal in digital form. The representation process is called as "coding analog signal to digital form". In simple words, PCM audio is representation of usual continuous analog signal as number sequence (discrete samples).

Adaptive differential pulse-code modulation - Wikipedia

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adaptive_differential_pulse-code_modulation
Adaptive differential pulse-code modulation is a variant of differential pulse-code modulation that varies the size of the quantization step, to allow further reduction of the required data bandwidth for a given signal-to-noise ratio. Typically, the adaptation to signal statistics in ADPCM consists simply of an adaptive scale factor before quantizing the difference in the DPCM encoder. …

The first widely available, PC audio card that could play back PCM audio was the Creative Labs' Sound Blaster. This drove the audio format for a lot of early audio-capable DOS applications and games. The original Sound Blaster could only play mono, unsigned 8-bit PCM data. Later Sound Blaster cards were capable of playing back 16-bit audio data.

In PCM, data for .WAV files is stored using linear samples, while ADPCM uses deltas between samples. MORE INFORMATION ================ PCM and ADPCM are techniques for storing analog audio data in a digital format, the Microsoft .WAV file. Other storage methods (for example, Mu- Law, A-Law, Transform coding, CELP, and so on), are not supported ...

Difference Between PCM and ADPCM - Pediaa.Com

    https://pediaa.com/difference-between-pcm-and-adpcm/
ADPCM or Adaptive differential pulse code modulation is a modulation technique used to convert an analog signal into its binary form. The conversion takes place by taking frequent samples of the sound and the captured values will be represented in a binary form. This technique is a variation of pulse code modulation.
