Got my HTPC up and running on Windows 10 yesterday but can't find an option to bitstream audio, all I get is multi ch pcm. You have to set your media player to bitstream audio. In for example VLC you have to go to Tools > Preferences > Audio and check "Use S/PDIF when available". My old PC (i7 970, 12gb, rx 580, win 7) that I repurposed for HTPC sounds good but doesn't sound $1K renovate my apartment great. If I bitstream audio from VLC/MPC, it's as quiet and I have to crank up the volume a lot on the receiver. It's only acceptable if I use potplayer with built in normalization and whatever for increasing volume.
