    The lexicon U22 would have sufficed but I really need midi IO so the U42S is the first in the lexicon range to provide midi IO, the two extra preamps and second headphone output are nice to have as well. What looks nice in the E-MU 0404 is to have a built in soft limiter in the preamp section and a ground lift to avoid guitars going buzzy.
