I have my cable box connected to my TV via HDMI and an optical cable to the surround sound receiver. It has been working great since the last time ATT upgraded my equipment. Last night no channel is sending 5.1 surround sound. I get sound but not 5.1. My BluRay player is connected the same way to the TV via an HDMI cable.

Does the Uverse Cisco IPN330HD broadcast in 5.1 stereo ...

Audio nut. Verified Hi and welcome to Just Answer. Yes. The 330 should pass 5.1 info to your receiver if the souce broadcast includes DolbyDigital or DTS encoded material. I would make sure that the 330 is set to output PCM down the optical cable. I would also call your provider and see if they are passing 5.1 encoded material to the box.

That's pretty much standard behavior on all cable boxes, not just Uverse. You basically only two options: 1. stereo PCM 2. DD 5.1 surround. When you connect HDMI directly to TV, 99% of the TV will only support option #1. So, unless you have a TV that belongs to that 1% which takes DD 5.1 audio, you are out of luck. I keep my receiver on all the time.

In 5.1 Dolby. The set top box has a on screen display which allows you to switch between Stereo and Surround Sound. In stereo everything works fine. In Surround Sound it sucks. But, before the tournament final it worked great. Watching a blu ray my surround sound still sounds great, and I have switched hdmi inputs, and even tried an optical cable.
