Clearaudio Concept MC cartridge review - AudioShark

I was planning to do a review of the Clearaudio Concept MC cart at some time but when a friend asked specifically, I thought I really should share my experience. I purchased this to replace a defective Audio Technica OC9/III. I based it on two things. One is the claim that this cartridge is a perfect mate to my Concept table.

The motor and belt are hidden from view, protected from dust and UV. They drive a precision machined aluminum sub-platter coupled to a 40mm. thick POM platter, supported by Clearaudio's patented CMB (Ceramic Magnetic Bearing). The Performance DC's 33, 45, and 78 rpm speeds are selected by blue.

I would love to hear a Clearaudio table. I like the idea of their magnetic bearings which as you noticed reduce table generated noises. I know the Concept arm also has magnetic bearings but I am not very knowledgeable on Clearaudio's designs. One thing I have learned is less noise = more music. I am sure it is quieter than an unmodded Rega.

Clearaudio Magnify Tonearm I saw some photos of a Clearaudio Magnify tonearm today & was struck by the huge housing that encloses the bearings and runs forward to encompass the lift/lower and parking devices.

Clearaudio Ovation or VPI Prime Signature? - Audionirvana.org

Have not heard the Clearaudio, but only the Prime Signature. As others above have stated, I am more partial to the VPI line and believe them to be tremendous values. I have to sell my Avenger, but it is a little above your budget. The Prime Signature in Rosewood is an excellent choice, but has an upcharge of $800 from the black Prime Signature.

Turntable Mat - Talk Classical

Believe that that is how Clearaudio envision all their turntables! (* Plastic used because it resembles the vinyl used in LPs) IMHO, the only time adding a "mat" will bring any advantage is when the turntable has a metal platter (like Krumhorn's vintage AR!), but by all means, You should absolutely try some to make Your mind up!
