The Hugo and 2qute are quite different from many other DACs you may have heard because they are based on very different technology. They go back to basics of what it takes to render a digital sampled signal properly and are very accurate. I think they do expose recordings, but still maintain the musicality in them.

Definitely recommend in this application (or R2R/multi-bit). Chord DACs aren’t as transparent to HQPLAYER upsampling IMO. I have owned Hugo, Mojo, Hugo TT, Hugo 2 and tried the DAVE so I don’t think it will be any different with the qutest. However, HQPLAYER embedded is a great uPNP endpoint.

I have the 2Qute, the immediate predecessor. I tried Qobuz (European streaming version) in Hi-Res. It sounded worse than CD. However, with proper CD, the 2Qute brings a lot to the table. The common phrase in hifi magazines is 'lifting a veil'. It is a cliche but I can't really think of a better way to describe it.

Chord Electronics Ltd. 2Qute [Expired] For sale is the Chord 2Qute. The 2Qute, the predecessor to the Qutest, are more difficult to come by nowadays. This DAC sounds nearly identical to the Qutest but without the filter options. The 2Qute showcases Chord’s signature ability to produce quick transients and natural timbre.
