Seems to be a bit of a recurring theme on the Audiolab stuff. Is quality control / reliability an issue with them overall? Still feeling that the 6000A will be my next amp but being put off a bit by some of the reliability issues surrounding Audiolab . D. Deleted member 824153 Guest. Nov 22, 2019 #25

Audiolab is launching a new all-in-one, just-add-speakers music system, the Omnia. Housed in an aluminium enclosure, it features an integrated CD player, inputs for external sources – including a phono stage for a turntable – hi-res network streaming, the ability to form part of a synchronised multi-room system and amplification – which the company says is high quality …

Looks vey tasty and Audiolab has a great reputation. Two small comments on spec: Airplay 2 is missing But may be cost issue. Secondly, having a tactile analog volume control is what make the Naim stand out. A smallish dial knob around the on/off switch could look good. This would remove the volume buttons and the dial volume could move in a little.

The thorny issue of jitter is also addressed by Audiolab. Jitter is an odd thing – it sounds odd too. Jitter is supposedly produced by digital storage hardware, creating variations in the bitstream that changes the sound waveform itself (although there are also thoughts that jitter is fixed and is part of the actual disc itself in varying levels and that it is pressed into the disc …

World Exclusive Review: Audiolab M-DAC+ | Hi-Fi Choice

Sound quality. It wasn’t until the arrival of the Audiolab M-DAC in 2011 that cash-strapped audiophiles had a genuinely flexible yet fine-sounding DAC. It was so good at its £600 price point that it turned the market upside down. The new M-DAC+ doesn’t do this – think of it as a brilliant refinement, rather than the reinvention of the hi ...

Audiolab 6000A | Hi-Fi Choice

Audiolab was started in the bedroom of Philip Swift’s Cambridge house back in the autumn of 1982. “We wanted to make a very high-performance product at a very affordable price, one which was also practical and reliable,” he once told me. The first Audiolab 8000A integrated amplifier made its debut on hi-fi dealers’ shelves in 1983, and the brand never looked back.

Audiolab tell us they can play 24/192 in Critical Mode, using a Samsung phone. We could not. Play-Fi is not a system optimised for hi-res audio. In Standard mode it plays everything; in Critical Listening mode it will play hi-res – but with hesitation. When it does play, you do get fine sound. In standard mode you get quality slightly below that of CD.
