It will give us some clues if (leaving WMP aside for the moment) you insert the disc and open 'This PC' - highlight and right click the DVD/CD drive... select 'Properties' - you should be seeing something like the snip below and that indicates the drive and disc are (in theory) good to go... If not the problem is there somewhere...

I am trying to import files from audio CDs which my computer was reading before I upgraded to Windows 8.1. When I insert the CD, it is recognized, but its files are not, as a dialogue window saying "Choose What To Do With a Blank CD" appears. How can I get the computer to recognize the files? Thank you.
