The patch is getting installed, the audio drivers do get installed but when you rebbot it goes back to the previous state from where we started. check for the write filters on the machine. try this: install the audio drivers, instead of reboot, try logging off from the user account and login back and play a file. let me know what happens

You should be able to get the audio working w/o having to remove the service pack. You need to simply 'trick' Windows into thinking that SP2 is installed when you actually have SP3 installed. Follow the steps in this thread, but install the audio drivers between steps 3 and 4. Use the RealTek HD drivers from this link. That should do it! Good luck!
