audio cds do show up as an unmounted cd in the lancelot menu plasmoid but aren't recognized by the new device notifier plasmoid. (they don't show up at all). i have the xine & gstreamer phonon backends installed but i doubt this has anything to do with the system seeing the audio cds cuz using either of these backends doesn't fix the problem.
