The difference from regualr DD or DTS to True HD or Master Audio is big. Much more fine detail in the audio, but only if you have a receiver capable of it.

From what I've read the XsX does positional audio on a game-by-game basis as it requires use of software calls to the CPU and GPU. Previously the Xbox One used to code a pure digital PCM stream internally to whatever output the user had set (DTS, Dolby, etc.).

I do get 5.1 audio from Netflix on my Xbox One. But I have to configure the settings in Xbox One to choose the encoding (5.1/7/1 uncompressed or bistream out) Uncompressed option gives me PCM and bitstream out gives me Dolby Digital/ Atmos/DTS audio on my Yamaha receiver. I dont need to do any configuration when I play it through my Roku ULtra.

The XB1 decodes DTS HD and DD True HD and sends it to the receiver. To enable this, connect the XB1 to your receiver with the hdmi, and under the hdmi audio settings on your XB1 select "5.1 uncompressed" If you select bitsteam it just down mixes it to standard DTS or DD 5.1.
