Hi, I recently picked up a Sound Bar, and have connected my Xbox 360 to it using a digital optical audio cable. In the Xbox 360 system settings, everything works as expected with I choose Dolby Digital 5.1 output.

some h/t's need to have sound selected. my old samsung use to be dig in others use opt in. just read through your manual to see if you have to select any. also when you have your optic plugged into your xbox check the other end of the cable to see if there is a red light on it this will tell you if your xbox is supplying the sound to your h/t.

Go to System Settings on your 360 (MyXbox), then Console Settings, then Audio. You'll see "Digital Output" - click it and scroll through the three options, trying them. if it doesn't work, there's something wrong with your TV. Also - you could try turning them on out of order - 360- first then TV and vice versa.

You need to plug the HDMI into the receiver to get the 5.1 as most (all?) TVs won't send multichannel audio from HDMI to optical. Do this: 360 --(HDMI)--> Receiver --(HDMI)--> TV Otherwise if you don't have a receiver that handles HDMI then get the 360 cable that lets you use optical and HDMI.
