There are two possible solutions to this, a) get xbmc to output 7.1 PCM and have alsa downmix these channels while maintaining 7.1 LPCM over HDMI (no multichannel spdif support for this config though) b) get xbmc to output passthrough and ALSO downmix to 2ch at the same time allowing two outputs to be active.
