    First of all, thanks a ton for the XBMC image, stephan! It looks glorious and looks the like, too. ... output device to SPDIF on both audio output and passthrough and configuring the receiver to take video from HDMI and audio from SPDIF did work, and I could hear the 5.1 channel audio without a problem.

    So I am assuming the SPDIF is Card 0 deve 1 hence my config file in home/xbmc/.asoundrc contains (apart from the above quoted) pcm "hw:0,1" I have configured XBMC Audio settings as required and still I can only hear 1 audio source.     but you can stick the LIVE linux install on a USB flash key, set the Revo to boot from USB and use the XBMC media player, then reboot to Windows on the internal HDD and run your web browser. if I get the time this weekend I'll try throwing XP on my Revo and see if I can get optical audio output.
