With 2.6.34 i'm able to get audio through my Asus (Nvidia chipset) GF210. The issue is that in order to get audio in XBMC, i have to specify a custom audio device as plughw:1,7 and that seems to disable dmix -- ergo, no more two sounds at once (so no crossfade during music playback).

It just asks the hardware device (in this case it is hw:0,0). Given this limitation I have to write an asoundrc (or asound.conf) file where I can configure the hw:0,0 device. I test the configuration by running: speaker-test -D hw:0,0 -c6. This simulates how the XBMC will produce surround sound. My asound.conf looks like this at the moment:

PulseAudio hogs the audio device at XBMC launch so that ALSA cannot obtain a lock on the audio device to play the multi-channel movie audio. Side effects of this approach are that while XBMC is running, desktop and XBMC menu audio are non-functional. At least I can play my movies in multi-channels, I guess.
