Problems with XBMC-audio on Apple TV 2. 3 Replies. I have an Apple TV 2 that I’ve installed XBMC on. For a while it was working great, but out of the blue suddenly the sound got choppy. I guess there was an update that changed something. The best description I have for it is that the audio sounded like a machine gun – very annoying!

I got an Apple tv 2 jailbroken with sn0wbreeze and xbmc installed through nitotv and I am having the exact same problem as markiz. Since i havn't got a movie handy for movie playback, I wouldn't know if the audio works in there. all I know is that the audio doesn't work and I'd really like to have audio on add-ons such as Grooveshark

Also worth noting: in XBMC 12.0 you will need to set up your sound. For this simply navigate to Settings/System/Audio Output go to the second option from the bottom and sleet the audio option that is right for you. Afterwards, go to the very first option and select between HDMI and Analog. If you are unsure… you are on HDMI. Congratulations!

In XBMC settings I've chosen HDMI for audio. Since I get sound when using the Apple TV, without XBMC - it must be something with XBMC that is not working. Any ideas? Update: The sound was there all the time. I was just used to the sound when moving in menus - but it seems that this is not currently working in XBMC.

Apple tries to stop you downgrading - they are not the Apple of yore. I was even thinking of getting a U3011 (successor to the 3008WFP) in order to get 2 HDMI ports to connect my PVR/Blu-Ray player and Apple TV to separate ports, and maybe getting an ATV3, but now it should be sufficient to get an HDMI and audio switch.

echo "exec xbmc --standalone" > .xsession # Logout exit. Reboot sudo reboot 3.7 Set up the HDMI audio output. After reboot, XBMC should start up automatically. You might have some strange colors. Just unmute the HDMI audio output by running alsamixer. ssh to your appletv ssh [email protected] alsamixer-> unmute IEC958 1 (that's the HDMI audio output)
