Another way is running gstreamer-properties and selecting ALSA, OSS or PulseAudio in the Default Output and Default Input options. Whichever option the user prefers. Works like the winetricks mentioned by fossfreedom but this is only for sound in general. In his case you can do a lot more. Share Improve this answer answered Nov 8 '11 at 21:08

Wine does not work with pulseaudio for most windows programs. In fact, on systems with pulseaudio I end up disabling audio so that the programs run through wine don't crash. I suggest either oss4, which works well on my system, or alsa with jack and no pulseaudio.

Still, you want to use pulseaudio? pulseaudio-alsa is for applications which are not able to output to pulseaudio natively, but using alsa instead, to my knowledge at least. So it would be cruel to force wine to use alsa just because then pulseaudio-alsa will take care for of redirecting the audio to pulse?!

It turns out that a 32-bit wine prefix will require the 32-bit version of the drivers. By default, on a 64-bit system, dnf install wine-pulseaudio will install the wine-pulseaudio.x86_64 package. To enable audio in wine I succeeded only after running dnf install wine-pulseaudio.i686. After that, everything went smoothly.

Wine and Audio - openSUSE

The ALSA output in Wine (beta releases) does not work with the PulseAudio plugin for ALSA (called alsa-pulse) currently, at least not for DirectSound. See this bug report for Wine and this report for PulseAudio . If it does not work to route the audio through ALSA, perhaps Wine will work better if it uses the OSS or ESD procol between Wine and PulseAudio.

Launch the WINE executable with the following environment setting: By executing the command below we add 60ms of lag to audio. This allows pulseaudio to put the jittered out-of-order audio fragments back into order. env PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 env WINEPREFIX=/location/of/prefix WINE game.exe
