I could play a DVD using Nero Show Time. I installed the lasted verison of Windows Media Player from Microsoft web page. It will play the vidio, but I have no sound. I have checked and the speakers are on. I can't use the Nero now or stop windows from blocking it. Looks like I will have to reformatt the hard drive!

Have uninstalled all software since I last used Windows Media Player 11, according to Add/Remove Programs. Uninstalled WMP11 which rolled back to WMP9 and then reinstalled WMP11. Still no audio with both. Audio and DVD work perfectly with Real Player and WinDVD so just don't know why WMP11 won't play audio but will play video.

When I play a DVD or MP3 with Windows Media Player 11 (WinXPproSP2) the movie plays but there is no sound. There is audio if I use WinDVD or Real Player so it is not a hardware problem. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions. I did recently install an MP3 ripper if that helps with any ideas. Thank you. S
