    Passthrough is done by the software you are using to decode the audio. you can use ffmpeg audio decoder & in its settings enable passthrough. That should work. As for the HDMI issue. you have to disable audio for HDMI & only keep Optical out enabled, then only it will work. My HTPC is connected using the same style that I am recommending to you.

    Open the audio control panel playback tab. Go to properties on your device. Select the Advanced tab. Under Exclusive Mode, ensure the two options are checked.
