I think the tag noise must be sent using Windows audio rather than through Winamp since it does not happen on my setup (Which does not play Windows audio) Decoding is more CPU efficient than multichannel WMA on Winamp.

It depends on your soundcard's drivers, there are many different ways of matrixing to 5.1 - but unfortunately most of them just end up interfering with the original recording's stereo imaging (at best) or just make a muddy-sounding mess (at worst). If you have a Creative card you can enable CMSS to get sound coming out of all your speakers.

That's strange. It works when I do the self-test, and I have it setup to output 5.1 in the control panel, but it still doesn't put any sound out the rear speakers when I use winamp.
