If you are a Windows user and do not have the music available in another format, you will need to convert it to a format that the iPod can use, such as MP3. There are numerous applications that can quickly convert these files, such as SuperAudio Converter and WMA-to-MP3 Converter.

Will ipod classic 160 GB play 24 Bit audi ... - Apple

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4917752
Yes, iPod does play 24 Bit audio at 48Khz, but only in the ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Codec) format. Anything higher than 48Khz it does not play (well, I tried 96Khz and a message came up that it's not supported. I haven't tried 88Khz). I tried 24/48 WAV and the same comment came up. So only ALAC for 24 bit/48K on the iPod.

Clearly the Mac recognizes it as an iPod and a working USB device. iTunes refuses to show it in the list of devices. In a chat with Apple support, I was told my iPod is no longer supported.
