The problem is no sound with mkv’s of AAC 2.0 sound format, and also all youtube videos being played. I had to go to setup, switch Audio to ‘Stereo’ in order to make these AAC 2.0 files to output a sound, and also to make youtube videos to output a sound. If I go back to ‘Digital output via Optical’ no sound will be produced…

Similar problem here. Watching Netflix with audio output set to “HDMI pass through”, I only get audio if the track is DD5.1, no audio when the movie track is in stereo. The only way I can get it to work is to change the WDTV audio output setting to “Stereo”, which defeats the whole purpose of haveing my AV receiver with 5.1 speakers.

Live is connected through Hdmi and the three different videos definitely have audio. Specs state the unit plays AAC…anyone have ideas? Btw: just upgraded to latest firmware version

Playing your file with that should not make a difference at first, then remove "he-aac" and see if that does. you might be able to leave "aac-lc" but remove it if causes the same issue. Also don't forget to remove the forced transcoding for mp4 otherwise this will be ignored. Transcoding should be avoided whenever possible.

WDTV: Transcoding AAC 6-chan to AC3 6 chan - Conceiva

Unlike my PS3, my WDTV can only handle AC3 when it comes to 5.1 audio. I have a few DVDs that I had ripped in H264 with AAC 5.1 audio. Can you tell me what I should put into my WDTV profile to have it transcode any AAC with more than 2 channels into AC3 (but keeping AAC 2 channels as it is)? That way the WDTV would pass the audio to my receiver, for proper 5.1 …

Could be an AC3 audio issue. By default VRD retains the AC3 audio when saving to MP4, but not all players support AC3 in an MP4 file. Try going into the Options in the Save dialog and changing the audio to AAC. Does that help? Dan L lambda379 New member Apr 25, 2011 #4 Dan203 said: Could be an AC3 audio issue.
