The interesting takeaway is that the audio drops out consistently every 3.2 seconds. Each dropout is of the same length (about a quarter of a second). Can anyone out there offer up any theories on this? I want to sell my VX2000 and upgrade to a newer model, but I can't really sell her until she's back in working order.

The VX 2000 would play the tape with no drop outs but Vegas stuttered like crazy during capture, but the cpatured video & audio were usually fine. Second, when the skipping is on the tape, the first thing to check is dirty heads in the VX2000. A pass or two with a cleaning tape will tell you if this is the problem.

While recently copying 8-10 year old Mini-DV tapes ( Sony DVC 60 LP-90) to DVD discs, there were repeated sound drop-outs, while playing from my Sony DCR-VX2000 to a Panasonic recorder. Video quality was unaffected. Sound would last a few seconds, then suddently silence a few seconds, then sound again, etc..
