VLC media works perfectly fine for DVD's, BUT Vista MCE and WMP dose not play sound for DVD's. Obviously it's due to the vista SP2 update. Also since the update some recorded shows will not play sound as well.

No sound just from DVD's. Audio CD's and streaming video work fine. FWIW, when running WinXP, and the same type of plug-in, there wasn't an issue. As I recall, the connector from the DVD R/RW drive is connected to the soundcard.

According to your description, I would suggest that upgrade your audio driver to newest version ( as I know, it is v.6.10.0.5511, A04). Also, please go to Control Panel > Sounds > Playback Devices, highlight Speakers, Properties tab, and disabled all enhancements as a test.
