Got an HP laptop 6735b Vista, by june 2009. Had same crackling sound problem on absolutely every sound file type, every players including system intself, on video and streaming as well, on all outputs : head phone, external hifi, internal speakers. Hi, I also have an M1710 and am having audio crackling problems. The issue appears to be with Vista's new Audio system. The Audio System appears to be being temporarily "Starved" of CPU.
