VirtualDub sees both video capture devices and will use either one: but it still does not give me a choice of audio input devices. However, it will let me take the video from the FHD HDMI input and sound from the Pinnacle device, so I have a work-around.

I tried to do a capture test with the Virtualdub mod that I got from here (virtualdub 1.9.11 + Filters) but it crashed my computer on both attempts. I got it to work with the regular vdub app. I go to the capture section, and I can see my videotape playing, so at least I got that part right. However. I've got no audio. Help?

If you get messages like "no audio compressor could be found. source format tag: xxxx" from VirtualDub, you should manually add the following line to your windows\system.ini file under [drivers32] section: msacm.xxxx=ac3acm.acm (in my case xxxx=2000 too, but i've heard something about 0050 or 0x50)

The only advice I can give on the audio is to check the "volume meter" under VDub audio options and make sure the VUmeter is showing something during your preview. Sometimes, I've accidentally had the mixer control set to the dedicated mic-in instead of analog-in.
