The audio slider is grayed out. I assume that "No Audio Device" is the important bit. The most obvious explanation is that no audio device has been enabled in the VM recipe. @caveman: Time to see that VM log file. With the VM fully shut down, right click it in GUI. Select "Show Log" and save "VBox.log" (ONLY) to a zip file. Attach the zip here.

Sound totally broken for Windows XP guest ... - VirtualBox

I just updated to VirtualBox v6.0.2 and noticed immediately that audio got totally, utterly broken and non-functional (even going up to crash programs using sounds) for my Windows XP guest under my Linux host.. Sound was working beautifully with v6.0.0 (*) and I reverted to it... Note that the version of the extpack (6.0.0 or 6.0.2) installed (both in VirtualBox and in the guest OS) …

Audio distortion/skipping/stutter in Windows ... - VirtualBox

VirtualBox 5.2.22 on Windows 7 host. Audio is not in sync on Windows XP guest. There is always a 1 second delay. It is noticeable when start, pause or resume playing. Disabling audio output sometimes causes crackles. It also slows down playback timer on Windows 7 guest and stops playback timer on Windows XP guest.

Audio 'skipping' problem with Windows XP guest under Linux. by bdz » 16. Sep 2008, 03:25. When I use audio (e.g. Windows Media Player playing jazz24.org or Rhapsody), I get 'skipping'. This usually means either something is too slow or a buffer is too small. I don't think the speed of the underlying system is the problem.

Audio problems in Windows 95/Xp Hi there, I have Soundblaster on my Virtual Machine on Virtualbox, but I can't seem to get the sound to work correctly. For example in the game Jezzball, if the bouncing sound goes off many times it won't register all of 'em.

#6816 (Sound is very choppy as of 3.2) – Oracle VM VirtualBox

    https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/6816
I ran into a problem with choppy sound with a Windows XP Pro SP3 guest and the ICH AC97 audio controller. It happened in VirtualBox versions 4.2.16 and 4.3 on hosts running Windows 8.1 and Ubuntu 12.04 (Linux kernel 3.2.0-55-generic, PulseAudio). Switching the guest audio controller to SB16 made the audio less choppy but did not eliminate the problem completely.

No sound with any guest on Windows 10 host ... - VirtualBox

    https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/14361
    1) Start Virtual Box. 2) Start your guest VM. 3) BEFORE attempting to play sound from the guest, start an application that engages the audio device on the Win 10 host (I use a youtube video) 4) While audio is playing on the host, attempt to play audio from the guest. The audio from the guest should start playing as well.
