HD audio works fine on windows XP machines. Not on standard XP machines it doesn't. XP does not have native HD audio support, though non-native drivers are available and certain OEMs of course bundled whatever drivers their OEM PC required. It is possible to get RealTek HD audio drivers for an XP VM, but I've never bothered - stereo is fine for me.

In XP, there are no limitations for HD Audio support. If there is a correct hardware and a correct driver, a driver should work. So I need to know is HD Audio hardware emulation in 4.0.4 full and correct or the hardware is emulated only partially, enough for a default Win7 driver but not for other drivers. emusic.

The audio slider is grayed out. I assume that "No Audio Device" is the important bit. The most obvious explanation is that no audio device has been enabled in the VM recipe. @caveman: Time to see that VM log file. With the VM fully shut down, right click it in GUI. Select "Show Log" and save "VBox.log" (ONLY) to a zip file. Attach the zip here.

VirtualBox 5.2.22 on Windows 7 host. Audio is not in sync on Windows XP guest. There is always a 1 second delay. It is noticeable when start, pause or resume playing. Disabling audio output sometimes causes crackles. It also slows down playback timer on Windows 7 guest and stops playback timer on Windows XP guest.
