When I try to play .mov file witch includes pcm_s24be audio-track, vlc is unable to play it (atleast to produce any sound), but when I do conversion with ffmpeg (ffmpeg -i file.mov -vcodec copy -acodec pcm_s24le etc. output.mov) vlc is able to play that perfectly. ffmpeg -i from converter:

Well like I said Windows media player's problem is no sound at all while iTunes and VLC are having the same interference popping sound. My computer didn't come w/ restore disks, it is a built in function, so I unless those files are out of date that scenario you described seems unlikely. I'll call tomorrow after work. Thanks again for the help.

I have no problem with the sound using other players. I'm using Windows 98SE, the soundcard is a C-Media CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio Device. As all other software functions alright, it must be a Videolan problem...
