2008-05-25T05:36. Every once in a while a tape can cause the video heads to become clogged, which often results in no picture at all, and although this is a temporary condition, it can be a real pain to get rid of. Sometimes the only way to fix it seems to be to play an ordinary tape for several hours or so.

Could be dirty heads yes, try a head cleaning tape . Tracking is the video heads matching the signal on the tape. The recorder is probabley trying to set this automatically. However sometimes it is better to do this wih manuall control. If you still have the instructions ther should be a button somewhere.

Under devices, it does say Roxio Video Capture USB, however the other one just says USB Audio Device (does not specify 2861, that I can tell). I am also using the composite Video Adapter. Tried plugging in a DVD player instead (Sony DVP-NS400D), and the same thing happened. Sound, but no video signal.

If there is no actual recording on the VHS tape, there will be no frame to lock on and it will result in No Video Signal. On occasion, the VCR might lose tracking on the tape. The result will be scrambled video, discoloration, video distortion, etc. When this happens, VHS to DVD will lose track of the video frame resulting in a "No Video Signal".
