more to the point, yes ive been on corporate av gigs where they have run 200 ft of cat 5 instead of xlr so that they can save cost for those cable runs. 200 ft of cat 5 is two ch of audio for about 20 bucks where as the cheapest xlr will run you close to way much more than that like 25 cents per foot per channel (>.25*200*2) .
