Universal Audio LA610 - Sound on Sound

The handbook states that the LA610 is deliberately voiced to sound brighter than the original, and it certainly does sound very open at both frequency extremes. The LA-610 MkII definitely has a warm and fat unique sound. It brings so many instruments to life and wipes that digital edginess out your tracks. I don't claim to know a whole lot about electronics or compression, but that's another great thing about this unit.

The Universal Audio LA-610 channel strip in my opinion is the best channel strip you can get for your buck. Both the pre-amp section and the compressor section are extremely useful. Most of the time I will record using the compression straight to Pro Tools, but many times I'll go back and use the compressor on previously recorded things.

The neves are more forgiving and great on almost everything. The 610 is more a hit or miss kind of box. Vox, Bass and Outside BD mic were my typical applications. Neve sounds a little larger and more or less vintage depending on the …
