    https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1411908
I've been having choppy audio as well using ubuntu as a host (11.04, 11.10, and 12.04) and any windows operating system as a guest (I've tried 95 all the way through w7). From what I've been reading, this is a bug in virtual box.

I am a completely new to Linux and Ubuntu. I installed Ubuntu 20.04 on Virtual Box in windows 7. When I play videos from YouTube in Mozilla Firefox after about 50 seconds the sound gets cracking/distorted and after about 10-15 seconds the cracking/distortion goes away. It happens two to three times when I play a song of say 4 minutes.
