Skype was not detecting my Microsoft LifeChat headset at all in the audio/video settings (although the LifeChat's microphone was working OK as I could make a call but had to listen through my main speakers instead of the headset speakers). After reinstalling Skype the LifeChat device did appear in the audio/video settings and is now working OK.
