Using Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS - KODIbuntu on Lenovo Ideacentre Q150 hardware with NVIDIA ION graphics. The problem appears to be that the PC doesn't recognize there is a monitor present. Currently i'm on Nvidia driver 361.** on a ubuntu version. Also Tested 368,351,358,364 version.Nothing fixes my issue with Linux driver. I'm using Strix GTX 960 on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS fully updated with latest kernel. In windows if i install Nvidia driver,HDMI audio just works fine. But in Linux it doesn't gives any audio output.

Open the audio mixer (it's called pavucontrol here) Switch to the Configuration tab (rightmost tab), There is a dropdown for selecting the profile for the builtin audio device. Here I could select a HDMI profile, just be careful to pick one that is not marked as not available. After that, audio through HDMI worked just fine.
