I just don't know what happened, but my sound is stopped working in Ubuntu 8.10 guest on Windows XP host using VirtualBox 2.1.0. On host sound is working without any problem, but on guest there is no sound. Audio settings is "Host Driver: Windows DirectSound" and "Controller: ICH AC97."
