I've added the ppa sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev. I've also done killall pulseaudio. However when I try mplayer I get: [AO OSS] audio_setup: Can't open audio device /dev/dsp: No such file or directory (which indeed does not show up with ls) and no sound comes out. Youtube via chromium also makes no sound; so does Vimeo; so does vlc.
