This receiver will not output audio via hdmi to speakers hooked up to the receiver. You should however be able to get audio pass through to a tv without a problem. You need a digital or analog audio connection in addition to your hdmi to get this to work.

As an experiment I then installed an optical cable from the 722 to the 505 and configured this as the audio in for the TV.

I wasnt interested in high def sound and the way I read it was that the 506 just passed the signal on (audio and video) as my ps3 and dvd player both upscaled then I didnt need no on board scaling/conversion.
