I used the white TL Audio channel strip (I think it´s named 5051), which has the same preamp as the 5001. It´s almost the opposite of direct sounding - it´s hard to get things in your face with this preamp. Plus it´s not a fast preamp so I don´t think that it is a good choice for recording drums.
