DVD Review: THE WHO – Tommy – Live At The Royal Albert Hall Mark Dean November 23, 2017 The Who are a legendary band both in the pop and rock musical genres. However, it is for two albums of rock opera that they are particularly known. Tommy and Quadrophenia – two albums released within a short time scale in 1969 – 1973.

Reviewed in the United States on September 17, 2019 Verified Purchase Of course, the music is one of the best rock records ever made, but I'm an audiophile and this review is about the vinyl quality. I'm pretty leery about vinyl reissues, some are pretty bad, I've found that usually the original is better.

Reviewed in the United States on June 16, 2019 Verified Purchase I saw the show live in Chicago and it sounded great live. Listening to this release I was not disappointed. Roger sounds fantastic and it is beautifully recorded. The orchestra enhances Tommy and does not distract the listening experience. Really wonderful release.

Tommy: DVD Audio - DVD Movie Central

DVD-Audio will reveal mistakes and shortcomings even better than normal stereo CD’s, but the greats shine even better, as Tommy surely does here. The best reason to purchase this two-disc set is that Tommy only takes up the first disc.

The Who's Tommy - SACD 5.1 (!) reviews? - DVD Talk Forum

A DVD-Audio version of TOMMY is expected to be released at a later date. I'm listening to the DVD-A of Tommy and I'm blown away! It's hard to believe this was recorded in the late '60s. The 5.1 format allows you to hear each instrument with clarity and punch. The multi-channel mix envelops the listener with the music.

As this title was going to be released on both sacd and dvd-audio, the studio decided that they would record it using 24/96 pcm instead of using dsd from the master tapes. As such I have a complaint that the treble and top end sounds brittle and harsh at times. The digital fingerprint of pcm if you will. But that is a minor complaint.

DVD Review: “The Who at Kilburn 1977” – Popdose

    https://popdose.com/dvd-review-the-who-at-kilburn-1977/
Audio from the Kilburn show surfaced on a bootleg in the early part of this decade (oddly enough, most likely from one of my cassette tapes, but that’s another story) and last week, the full concert, warts and all, was finally released in all its six-camera, 35mm glory, along with a second disc featuring footage from a Tommy show at the London Coliseum.

I compared the sound of Stereo versions of both SACD and DVD-A of Tommy and I strongly reccomend to anyone interested the SACD version. DVD-A has some 30+ minutes of interview with Pete Townshend about making 5.1. mix of the album. That's OK .. but I prefer and recommend to all of You reading this the sound on SACD !!! Regards Tomek
