TenTec Pegasus - RF in mic audio | QRZ Forums

Radio is the TenTec Pegasus, headset is a Koss SB40. I've used this headset with numerous radios over the years and never had a problem with RF in my TX audio. The Pegasus is another story. I run the mic gain at 5/10, speech processor is not used. Only sporadically I hear RF in my monitored TX signal (using the Pegasus TX monitor)

The Pegasus has a problem. It is important to note that this tone was NOT audible when listening with headphones or a speaker. The signal could only be "seen" when a DSP program was watching the audio coming from the radio. An email was sent to Ten Tec, and they responded that the problem had been sent to the DSP programmers.

Ten-Tec provides a Windows based Graphical User Interface or GUI ( pronounced “gooey” ) which allows the Pegasus to be operated from a PC running Windows 3.1, 95 or 98. The radio-like features are created in the PC rather than the radio. Ten-Tec encourages and supports the efforts of other software vendors in adding support

Under 'normal' band conditions the CW bandwidth performance is acceptable. The Pegasus does not provide a built in noise blanker. At my QTH, this creates some problems when I am getting some interference from the power line for a few minutes. Some other Transceivers, providing a NB, more or less eliminate this noise.

I didn't expect the Pegasus to compare to my PROIII and it doesn't. What I do like about the Pegasus is the ability to change the RX bandwidth on the fly from 8KHz down to 330Hz. You can listen to shortwave broadcast at 6KHz and it sounds great. RX audio from the Pegasus is fed to my Logitech 5.1 system which really makes the radio sing.

The only two things you need to check there is whether the Pegasus is powered-on and an occasional glance at the ALC LED indicator tells you if the Mike gain setting is all right (the LED should light only at voice peaks). The rest of the game happens all in software, well almost... Connecting a mike, key (er) etc. is a standard procedure.

Pegasus/Jupiter to allow the two receivers to share the same antenna. Also, a fairly simple interface box must be constructed for the software to control muting between the two radios. There is a review of this software at www.eham.net under HF Transceivers "Ten-Tec RX340/Pegasus System".

Ten-Tec Jupiter - N1SU

    http://www.n1su.com/tentec.html
The Ten-Tec Jupiter is a real SDR, or Software Defined Radio. All the hubbub going on about the GNU Radio or SDR-1000 from FlexRadio does not excite me as much as it did before I saw the Jupiter and Ten-Tec Pegasus. Granted, there may be more flexibility in the other systems but Ten-Tec's radios are a complete solution.
