In use, the 8200A has a bright sound that brims with detail; the words ‘clean and crisp’ keep coming to mind. And despite the conservative 60W per channel power rating, it manages to drive everything – from KEF’s Q300s to our reference ATC SCM 50s – to commendably high levels.

The 8200a was and is essentially the 'audiophile Audiolab', by virtue of not having any tone controls (unlike the switchable bass and treble of the original 8000a).

The Audiolab 8200a is not a very good amp at all. I had one for a month or so before getting the Rotel, even after a month of constant play it sounded awful. Its loud and will impress in a demo. But at home its an unpleasant "listen". My feeling is it was designed as part of a bigger system - pre/mono configuration.

Review: techradar.com Audiolab's 8200A integrated amplifier takes the best design features of the 8000A/8000S and adds modern design techniques to offer unbeatable audio quality with 60W per channel. The 8200A is an update to the 8000S and earlier 8000A, but don't be fooled - this is far from a cosmetic update.
