Asus doesn't really give any specifications on their website so it's hard to figure out which chip it really is.

So, I got the Asus Supreme FX II with my P5E. Due to the board only having two pci slots, I decided to leave my trusty and old Terratec DMX X-fire (prolly from around 2001) out. The thing is, that I think I'm hearing that the sound quality slightly deteriorated with the change. The sound through my fairly good monitor set up sound less full and clear.

You need Encoding for gaming in digital which why DD live cards was made. Nvidia sound storm had DD live thats why it worked. NVidia sound storm i think was the first DD live onboard of its time. You have to buy a DD live to output your games in 5.1 thru digital its your only choice for gaming thru Digital also Supreme FX II isnt a DD live card.
